Suicide — a cry for help

International Patron for World Mental Health Day 2020, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan Al Sultan Abdullah in her speech commemorating World Suicide Prevention Day recently called for the decriminalisation of suicide.

JUST this past Thursday, Sept 10, we commemorated the World Suicide Prevention Day. Every year there are 800,000 deaths due to suicide worldwide, which equates to one death every 40 seconds, and even overtaking deaths due to motor vehicle accidents in some countries.

For every suicide, 25 people make a suicide attempt and many more have serious thoughts of suicide. For every life lost, there is an inconsolable, grieving family.
