Chinese firm launches certified used machinery brand in Kenya

NAIROBI, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer SANY Group launched its certified used machinery brand in Kenya on Thursday to enhance equipment affordability and reliability for local users.

The launch of SANY Certified Used in Nairobi was marked by the signing of a dealership agreement with Holman Brothers Kenya, which will distribute the company's certified used equipment in the Kenyan market.

Li Lei, general manager of SANY Used Certified, said the introduction of certified used machinery would provide greater assurance on the quality and reliability of used machines, while helping to address affordability challenges that local contractors and other equipment users are facing.

He said that through data-driven AI valuation models, real-time diagnostics and full lifecycle transparency, SANY hopes to redefine the used equipment market in Africa.

SANY will provide machinery buyers with the verified operating hours of the units as well as comprehensive repair reports to help customers make informed purchasing decisions, Li added.

Sharat Varma, managing director of Holman Brothers Kenya, said the certified used equipment would be sold at approximately 70 percent of the price of new machinery, making it more accessible to contractors and businesses.

Varma said Holman Brothers planned to bring in 50 to 80 certified excavators, which would come with a six-month warranty, technical support and local after-sales services aimed at boosting customer confidence and reducing equipment downtime.

The launch comes as Kenya continues to invest in infrastructure development, with construction and mining activities creating demand for reliable and cost-effective heavy machinery.
