TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rebounded on Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index snapping a six-session losing streak, as beaten-down shares related to artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, along with undervalued stocks, drew buying, though concerns over the AI sector lingered.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 898.34 points, or 1.39 percent, from Thursday at 65,324.29. The index had plunged more than 3,300 points the previous day, its third-largest single-day point drop.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 66.66 points, or 1.67 percent, higher at 4,066.00.
On the top-tier Prime Market, machinery, insurance and transportation equipment issues were among the notable gainers.
Buying spread across most sectors after Thursday's sell-off. While funds flowing into undervalued stocks underpinned the market, the rebound in AI- and chip-related shares was relatively modest amid persistent doubts about the profitability of companies in the sectors, analysts said.
