Malaysia-China ties to go beyond technology transfer, says DPM

BEIJING: Malaysia-China ties are set to move beyond investment and technology transfer to sharing the know-how that drives industries forward across various sectors, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs), says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).

The Deputy Prime Minister said this was among the key areas discussed during his meeting with Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang here on Thursday (Oct 15).

He said China wanted to expand cooperation beyond investments by its companies to include the transfer of technology and knowledge to Malaysia.

“China wants not only to transfer technology but also to share knowledge, which I very much welcome,” he told Malaysian media after the bilateral meeting here on Thursday.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid met Ding for a bilateral meeting at the Great Hall of the People here.

Ahmad Zahid said the discussions also covered financing for major Malaysian projects through the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank), with Beijing prepared to consider financing initiatives that could have a significant impact on the country's economy.

He said this would not be limited to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), adding that China was willing to examine financing for other projects with substantial economic benefits.
