U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.51 points, or 0.04 percent, to 50,926.56. The S&P 500 added 14.91 points, or 0.19 percent, to 7,666.45. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 10.53 points, or 0.04 percent, to 26,871.6.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with health and communication services leading the laggards by losing 1.30 percent and 1.19 percent , respectively. Meanwhile, energy and industrials led the gainers by going up 1.92 percent and 1.00 percent, respectively.
