Death toll from Slovak school knife attack rises to two


BRATISLAVA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A schoolgirl injured in a knife attack at a primary school in Staskov village, Zilina region, northern Slovakia, died on Thursday, Slovak Parliament Chair Richard Rasi announced in Parliament.

The girl became the second victim of the attack, which took place on Tuesday. A 61-year-old teacher died of her injuries at the scene, while another 44-year-old teacher with a stab wound to the chest was hospitalized.

The Slovak Parliament observed a minute of silence in memory of the girl.

A 13-year-old eighth-grade student is suspected of carrying out the attack on Tuesday morning. He was arrested by police and is currently being held at a psychiatric detention facility.

A criminal investigation is underway concerning the crimes of murder and attempted murder.
