ALGIERS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Algerian army units seized more than 58 kg of cocaine and arrested two suspected drug traffickers in the southernmost province of Tamanrasset on Monday, the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.
The operation was carried out by combined detachments of the People's National Army (ANP) under the Tamanrasset military sector of the 6th Military Region. The cocaine, the statement added, had been carefully concealed inside two semi-trailer trucks.
The seizure came about a month after the army seized 31 kg of cocaine and arrested three people in Tamanrasset, while on July 26, army units seized more than 45 kg of cocaine and arrested five suspected drug traffickers in the provinces of Adrar, Bechar and Timimoun, according to the ministry.
During the first half of 2026, the ANP seized 730.46 kg of cocaine and arrested 1,092 suspected drug traffickers, according to figures issued by the ministry.
