NEW YORK, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Friday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.55 percent to 99.703 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.158 dollars from 1.1649 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3531 dollars from 1.3589 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 160.14 Japanese yen, higher than 159.43 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8096 Swiss francs from 0.8043 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3907 Canadian dollars from 1.3858 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 9.6137 Swedish kronor from 9.5220 Swedish kronor.
