SAO PAULO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed in a road crash Thursday night on a state highway in Ventania in Brazil's southern state of Parana, local highway police said Friday.
According to a police report, a pickup truck carrying the five people collided head-on with a cargo truck traveling in the opposite direction. All five occupants of the pickup truck died at the scene.
The victims were employees of a company that provides electrical installation services in Londrina, an agro-industrial city in northern Parana.
The driver of the cargo truck and a female passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to an emergency care unit in Ventania.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the crash may have been caused by a failed overtaking maneuver by the pickup truck driver, who apparently did not have enough time to complete it before colliding with the oncoming cargo truck.
