AMMAN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday signed contracts worth 70 million U.S. dollars with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to supply natural gas to two industrial cities, as part of the kingdom's program under its Economic Modernization Vision, according to a statement from Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The contract for Al-Muwaqar Industrial City was awarded to a consortium of Petrojet and Ahmad Yousef Al-Tarawneh and Partners, while the contract for Rawdah Industrial City went to TAQA Arabia Group, the ministry said.
The projects are financed by the ADFD under a memorandum of understanding with the Jordanian government.
Jordanian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said the projects aim to reduce energy costs for the industrial sector, boost the competitiveness of local products, expand production, and help attract investment and create jobs.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, director general of the ADFD, noted the fund's relationship with Jordan dates back to 1974, with total financial support reaching 9.4 billion dirhams (about 2.56 billion dollars).
