DUSHANBE, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The National Theater of Tajikistan was inaugurated in Dushanbe on Monday after 11 years of construction, according to the press service of the country's president.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Rustam Emomali, chairman of the Majlisi milli of the Majlisi Oli and mayor of Dushanbe, attended the ceremony.
The inauguration of the theater was timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan's state independence. According to the press service, the event was an important historic occasion for the people of Tajikistan.
The theater was built at the initiative of Rahmon on a three-hectare site. The new venue is designed to host theatrical performances, operas, ballets, symphony concerts, festivals, conferences and international cultural events.
