HARARE, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and three others injured in a three-vehicle pileup in southern Zimbabwe on Aug. 23, local police confirmed Monday.

The accident occurred along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road when a vehicle carrying six people crashed into a stationary, broken-down truck before being struck from behind by another car.

All six occupants of the first vehicle died on the spot, while three passengers in the trailing car sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.

National broadcaster ZBC reported that the six deceased were football fans returning from a match in Bulawayo.

Police attribute most road accidents in the country to reckless driving and faulty vehicles.
