U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.06 percent to 98.894 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1676 U.S. dollars from 1.1674 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3628 dollars from 1.3607 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.14 Japanese yen, higher than 158.32 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8007 Swiss francs from 0.7979 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3790 Canadian dollars from 1.3810 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.4908 Swedish kronor from 9.4386 Swedish kronor.
