U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 119.65 points, or 0.22 percent, to 53,463.05. The S&P 500 added 16.22 points, or 0.21 percent, to 7,707.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 41.379 points, or 0.16 percent, to 26,331.09.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with health and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 3.52 percent and 2.14 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, industrials and technology led the laggards by losing 0.89 percent and 0.73 percent, respectively.
