NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. national debt has surpassed 40 trillion U.S. dollars, according to data released by the Treasury Department on Wednesday.
The total public debt outstanding exceeded 39 trillion dollars this March, after crossing the 30-trillion-dollar mark in January 2022.
