U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 69.72 points, or 0.13 percent, to 53,839.99. The S&P 500 added 50.49 points, or 0.65 percent, to 7,798.99. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 214.537 points, or 0.81 percent, to 26,803.025.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and real estate leading the gainers by going up 1.56 percent and 1.34 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, materials and energy led the laggards by losing 0.73 percent and 0.09 percent, respectively.
