LONDON, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two people suffered serious injuries after a train derailed Thursday afternoon close to Lewes railway station in Southeast England.
Nine others sustained "less serious injuries," according to South East Coast Ambulance Service.
Local fire and rescue authorities have been called to the incident, which happened at around 3:54 p.m. local time. There were approximately 150 people on board at the time of incident.
British Transport Police has declared "a major incident" as operator Southern Railway warns major disruption is expected for the rest of the day. Pictures circulating online show passengers standing on the top of the carriages that have flipped on their side.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch said it has deployed a team of inspectors to the site to begin gathering evidence.
