U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, July 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 613.92 points, or 1.19 percent, to 52,208.06. The S&P 500 added 121.48 points, or 1.66 percent, to 7,437.63. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 679.24 points, or 2.78 percent, to 25,122.18.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by adding 5.24 percent and 1.57 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer staples led the laggards by going down 2.52 percent and 2.24 percent, respectively.
