MOSCOW, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Russia's foreign trade surplus increased by 9.4 percent year on year to 59.1 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months of 2026, according to data released Monday by the country's Federal Customs Service.
Russia's total foreign trade turnover reached 295.7 billion dollars in January-May, up 8.3 percent from a year earlier. Exports rose 8.5 percent to 177.4 billion dollars, while imports increased 8.1 percent to 118.3 billion dollars.
Mineral products remained the backbone of Russia's exports, accounting for 54.2 percent of total exports during the January-May period. Machinery, equipment and other related goods made up the largest share of imports at 48.6 percent.
Asian countries remained Russia's largest trading partners, accounting for 74.8 percent of the country's total trade turnover. Trade with the region rose 12.4 percent year on year. Europe accounted for 18 percent of Russia's foreign trade, with trade turnover edging up 0.2 percent.
Trade with countries in the Americas logged 3.7 percent of the total, declining 5.6 percent from a year earlier, while African countries constituted 3.4 percent, with trade turnover falling 9.5 percent, the data showed.
