Uzbekistan launches first complex for production of hot-rolled steel sheets


TASHKENT, July 13 (Xinhua) -- A new casting and rolling complex has been commissioned at the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant in Bekabad on Monday, marking the first production of hot-rolled steel sheets in Uzbekistan, the press service of the president of Uzbekistan reported.

The designed capacity of the new complex is 1 million tonnes of hot-rolled sheets per year, and the annual value of the manufactured products is estimated at 8 trillion soums (about 660 million U.S. dollars).

It is expected that a total of 1,200 new jobs will be created at the enterprise.

The commissioning of the complex is part of the modernization program for the country's heavy industry.
