U.S. stocks close mixed


NEW YORK, July 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.09 percent to 52,348.39. The S&P 500 sank 0.28 percent to 7,482.71. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 0.2 percent to 25,870.652.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with materials and financials leading the laggards by going down 2.49 percent and 1.92 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and technology led the gainers by rising 1.45 percent and 1.44 percent, respectively.
