Georgian refiner to stop processing Russian crude in August or September

TBILISI, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Black Sea Petroleum LLC, owner of Georgia's oil refinery in Kulevi on the Black Sea coast, said it will begin processing crude sourced entirely from non-Russian suppliers in August or September, a move expected to open access to additional export markets.

"This will open doors to high-margin markets for products manufactured by Black Sea Petroleum," the company said Wednesday in a statement.

The company said it processed more than 650,000 tonnes of feedstock in the first half of 2026 and has expanded its partnership with Honeywell to include automated control systems for the refinery.

Under the company's development plan, the refinery is expected to begin producing road bitumen for domestic and export markets in the first quarter of 2027, followed by the launch of aviation fuel production in the second quarter.

Black Sea Petroleum is developing what it describes as Georgia's first full-cycle oil refinery in Kulevi, aiming to expand the country's refining capacity and reduce its dependence on imported petroleum products.
