Türkiye seizes over 1.7 mln cannabis plants, detains 31 suspects in major drug bust

ISTANBUL, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces confiscated more than 1.7 million cannabis plants and detained 31 suspects during a large-scale anti-narcotics operation in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Wednesday, said the Interior Ministry.

The ministry said the operation seized 1,755,212 cannabis and skunk plants, with a potential output of up to 40 tons of marijuana, along with an additional 54 kg of processed marijuana.

The operation targeted illegal cannabis cultivation in the districts of Lice, Hani, Hazro, Kocakoy, and Kulp, it said.

Türkiye has stepped up anti-drug operations in recent years as part of its efforts to combat drug production and trafficking nationwide and dismantle international organized crime networks.
