Motorway project undertaken by Chinese firms breaks ground in northeast BiH

BIJELJINA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A groundbreaking ceremony for the Brcko-Bijeljina motorway project undertaken by Chinese companies, was recently held in Bijeljina in Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Savo Minic, prime minister of Republika Srpska, attended the ceremony on Friday. Minic said the motorway is an important part of the highway network linking Banja Luka with the Serbian capital of Belgrade, and is of great significance for promoting regional connectivity and economic development.

Chinese Ambassador to BiH Li Fan said the Brcko-Bijeljina motorway project is another major project under Belt and Road cooperation between China and BiH, as well as an important achievement in infrastructure connectivity under the cooperation framework between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

The motorway is not only a transport artery, but also a road of friendship that will promote people-to-people exchanges and common development, Li said.

The motorway project is being undertaken by a consortium of China Overseas Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. The motorway is 17 kilometers long and scheduled to be completed within three years.
