Indonesia launches national bamboo planting drive to restore degraded land


JAKARTA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia launched a national bamboo planting movement on Sunday to help restore 12.4 million hectares of degraded land across the country.

The program, which forms part of the government's national ecological restoration agenda, began with the planting of around 5,000 bamboo trees in Bogor Regency, West Java.

The government aims to plant millions to tens of millions of bamboo trees across Indonesia through collaboration with environmental groups and local communities.
