Iran says deal with US won't be signed Sunday

TEHRAN: Iran's foreign ministry said Saturday (June 13) that an expected memorandum with the United States to end hostilities would not be signed on Sunday, state media reported.

"We have to wait and see about the exact time of signing; although it will not be tomorrow," ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, according to the IRNA news agency.

"The possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out," he added, after mediator Pakistan said Iran and the United States could finalise the deal within 24 hours.

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Iran and the US are closer than ever to signing a peace deal, with the deal expected to be finalised within the next 24 hours.

In a post on the X platform, Shehbaz said the negotiations had entered their final stage and expressed optimism about the prospects for a breakthrough. — AFP
