U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, May 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.72 percent to 51,032.46. The S&P 500 added 0.22 percent to 7,580.06. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 0.2 percent to 26,972.62.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the red, with consumer staples and communication services leading the laggards by losing 2 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, technology and financials led the gainers by adding 1.87 percent and 0.56 percent, respectively.
