U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.17 percent to 99.257 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.1612 dollars from 1.1631 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound lost to 1.3426 dollars from 1.3442 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.08 Japanese yen, higher than 158.84 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.7874 Swiss francs from 0.7868 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3783 Canadian dollars from 1.3749 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.3501 Swedish kronor from 9.3324 Swedish kronor.
