"Michael" regains No. 1 spot at North American box office


LOS ANGELES, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Lionsgate's Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" regained the No. 1 spot at the North American box office with 26.1 million U.S. dollars in its fourth weekend of release, according to data from measurement firm Comscore released on Sunday.

"Michael" has grossed 282.8 million dollars in North America and 703.9 million dollars worldwide so far.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film tells the story of late American singer Michael Jackson's life beyond the music, highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2," from 20th Century Studios, slipped to second with 18 million dollars in its third weekend. The comedy-drama has now earned 175.9 million dollars domestically through Sunday.

Rounding out the top three, Focus Features' R-rated horror film "Obsession" opened this weekend to a debut of 16.1 million dollars.
