5 killed, 15 wounded in Israeli strikes across S. Lebanon


BEIRUT, May 17 (Xinhua) -- At least five people, including two children, were killed and 15 others wounded on Sunday as Israeli strikes intensified across southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese sources.

Three people, including a child, were killed and eight others, including three children, were wounded in an Israeli strike on the town of Tayr Felsay, the Lebanese Health Ministry's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said.

Two people were killed and three others wounded in Israeli strikes on the village of Tayr Debba. According to Lebanon's National News Agency, several paramedics were among the wounded.

Two people were wounded in a strike on the town of Zrariyeh, and two others were wounded in a strike on the village of Jibchit, the center said.

Meanwhile, repeated explosions rocked the border town of Khiam. Israeli warplanes also carried out two strikes on the town of Sohmor in eastern Lebanon, and Israeli reconnaissance drones were reported flying at low altitude over Beirut and its suburbs.

Separately, Hezbollah said in statements that it launched a suicide drone attack on an Israeli military vehicle and struck a gathering of Israeli soldiers in the town of Bayada.

According to data released Sunday by the center, the cumulative toll from the Israeli offensive since March 2 has risen to 2,988 deaths and 9,210 injuries.
