U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, April 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 4.87 points, or 0.01 percent, to 49,442.56. The S&P 500 sank 16.92 points, or 0.24 percent, to 7,109.14. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 64.09 points, or 0.26 percent, to 24,404.39.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in the green, with materials and financials leading the gainers by going up 0.56 percent and 0.34 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and health led the laggards by dropping 1.41 percent and 0.93 percent, respectively.
