BiH exports to EU increase by 5.7 pct year-on-year in Q1

SARAJEVO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)'s exports to European Union (EU) countries reached 3.21 billion convertible marks (1.93 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2026, marking an increase of 5.7 percent year-on-year, according to the Agency for Statistics of BiH.

Data released by the Agency on Monday also show that imports from the EU stood at 4.23 billion convertible marks (about 2.55 billion dollars), a modest growth of 0.9 percent compared with the same period in 2025.

Base metals and related articles, which remain the primary export category, represented a 10.4 percent growth, and other strong performing sectors included machinery, electrical equipment, wood and processed food products, according to the statistics.

BiH economic analysts have said the growth in exports to the EU underscores the deepening integration of BiH into European value chains, according to local media.
