Romanian PM refuses to resign after main coalition partner withdraws support

BUCHAREST, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Romania's Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan of the National Liberal Party (PNL) vowed on Monday not to resign after the main ruling coalition party, the Social Democratic Party (PSD), announced withdrawal of support for him.

Following a closed-door meeting of the PNL, the second-largest party in the ruling coalition, Bolojan issued a statement on social media, saying he would continue to fulfill his duties as prime minister to ensure government stability.

Bolojan also criticized the PSD for "participating in decision-making while cowardly evading responsibility for those decisions."

Key leaders of the PNL have said the party will continue to support Bolojan.

In response, the PSD has warned that if Bolojan insists on staying in office, it will withdraw all of its ministers from the government. At the same time, the party is also considering filing a no-confidence motion against the current government to force its resignation.

PSD members have expressed dissatisfaction with Bolojan's economic policies, arguing that the government has failed to effectively boost the economy.
