BEIRUT, April 5 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed on Sunday night in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a residential building in central Lebanon's Mount Lebanon Governorate, according to local TV channel Al Jadeed.
Among the dead of the strike in the Tallet Ain Saadeh area, east of Beirut, was the head of the Yahchouch Center of the Lebanese Forces, Pierre Mouawad, according to available information. Mouawad lived on the second floor of the targeted building.
His wife remains missing under the rubble, as Lebanese Civil Defense teams continue search and rescue operations to reach her, according to the local channel.
Information also indicated that the man who was the main target of the strike managed to escape shortly before the strike.
Also on Sunday, Candice Ardell, spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), expressed concern over Hezbollah members and Israeli soldiers firing projectiles and gunfire at or near UN positions, incidents that have already resulted in deaths and injuries among peacekeepers.
According to Lebanon's official National News Agency, Ardell said these activities endanger peacekeepers and reminded all parties on the ground of their obligation to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times.
The developments came amid broader regional hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran, as well as repeated recent incidents affecting UNIFIL positions in southern Lebanon.
