Russia's new car sales rise 4 pct in Q1


MOSCOW, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Sales of new vehicles in Russia rose 4 percent in the first quarter of 2026, reaching nearly 300,000 units, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said Thursday.

Domestically produced car sales exceeded 181,000 units in January-March, up 18 percent from a year earlier, while sales of new imported vehicles fell nearly 11 percent to about 118,500 units.

By segment, new passenger car sales totaled nearly 267,000 units, marking a 9 percent increase. Sales of light commercial vehicles fell 23 percent to 18,675 units, truck sales also declined 23 percent to 11,803 units, and bus sales dropped 12 percent to 2,197 units.

The ministry noted that the share of Russian-made vehicles in the first quarter rose 6 percent from the same period in 2025, reaching 60 percent. In March alone, the share exceeded 62 percent.
