White House sends next Fed chair nomination to Senate

NEW YORK, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The White House has sent the U.S. Senate the nomination of Kevin Warsh to be the next chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System for a term of four years, according to a release from the White House on Wednesday.

The nomination of Warsh as the member of the Fed's board of governors for a term of 14 years from Feb. 1, 2026 was also sent to the Senate, according to the White House.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced Warsh's nomination on Jan. 30.

Warsh, 55, served as a member of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 to 2011.

He currently serves as the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution and a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell was nominated by Trump in November 2017. His second four-year term will end in May 2026.

The approval of the nomination faces uncertainties in the Senate as the Trump administration's attempts to implement a criminal investigation of Powell and to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook backfire.
