CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The mixed doubles curling competition will start at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, two days ahead of the official opening of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Four games are scheduled on the opening day. Beijing 2022 runner-up Norway will play Britain, while Sweden, bronze medalist in Beijing, faces South Korea. Other two games pit Canada against the Czech Republic, and Estonia against Switzerland.

Host Italy, featuring reigning Olympic champions Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner, will take on South Korea on Thursday.

Canada is the most successful curling team in Olympic history with 12 medals including six golds, ahead of Sweden (four golds) and Britain (three). Switzerland, Norway, the United States and Italy claimed one gold each.

The mixed doubles event was added in the Olympic program at PyeongChang 2018, featuring eight pairs before increasing to 10 four years later.

The mixed doubles final of Milan-Cortina 2026 will be held on February 10, followed by the men's competition from February 11-21, and the women's tournament on February 12-22.
