U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar climbed in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.19 percent to 99.323 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1614 dollars from 1.1636 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3386 dollars from 1.3431 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 158.54 Japanese yen, higher than 158.5 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8031 Swiss francs from 0.8004 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3893 Canadian dollars from 1.3874 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.2263 Swedish kronor from 9.2073 Swedish kronor.
