U.S. stocks close mixed

NEW YORK, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 319.10 points, or 0.66 percent, to 48,382.39. The S&P 500 added 12.97 points, or 0.19 percent, to 6,858.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 6.36 points, or 0.03 percent, to 23,235.63.
