NEW YORK, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 319.10 points, or 0.66 percent, to 48,382.39. The S&P 500 added 12.97 points, or 0.19 percent, to 6,858.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 6.36 points, or 0.03 percent, to 23,235.63.
Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and industrials leading the gainers by rising 2.09 percent and 1.88 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and communication services led the laggards by going down 1.14 percent and 0.38 percent, respectively.
