DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on Friday commended the progress of the Kilwa Fishing Harbor in the Lindi Region, saying that the construction is 90 percent complete.

Speaking to local leaders and residents after inspecting the project constructed by China Harbor Engineering Company, Nchemba highlighted the port as one of Tanzania's key strategic projects whose completion will leave a lasting legacy for the nation.

"I am very pleased with the progress of this project, which is among many strategic initiatives that, once completed, will make a significant mark for Tanzanians," he said.

Nchemba noted that the construction of the fishing harbor marks the beginning of the implementation of major projects outlined in Tanzania's Vision 2050, and upon completion, the harbor will significantly boost incomes, improve livelihoods, and increase national revenue.

Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Bashiru Ally said the government will ensure the port generates employment, revenue, and serves as a model of successful public investment.

Ally added that due to its modern standards, the process has begun to certify the harbor according to regional and international benchmarks.

The minister also invited private sector stakeholders to invest in supporting services, including fuel supply for boats, fish processing industries, and port operations.
