U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.92 percent to 97.716 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1722 dollars from 1.1610 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3526 dollars from 1.3419 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 146.87 Japanese yen, lower than 148.35 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.8011 Swiss francs from 0.8089 Swiss francs, and it slipped to 1.3825 Canadian dollars from 1.3899 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 9.4971 Swedish kronor from 9.6200 Swedish kronor.
