U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.72 percent to 97.919 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro added to 1.1578 U.S. dollars from 1.1486 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3596 dollars from 1.3547 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 143.52 Japanese yen, lower than 144.51 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.8115 Swiss francs from 0.8205 Swiss francs, and it lost to 1.3603 Canadian dollars from 1.3663 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.4464 Swedish Kronor from 9.5636 Swedish Kronor.
