ROME, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Italy's economy grew by 0.3 percent in the first quarter of 2025, according to preliminary data released on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute, ISTAT.
This follows a 0.2 percent increase in the last quarter of 2024 and no growth in the third quarter. The last time quarterly growth was higher was in the first quarter of 2023, when the economy grew by 0.4 percent.
ISTAT said the growth came mainly from gains in agriculture, forestry, fishing, and industry. Service prices remained mostly unchanged.
On the demand side, domestic spending supported growth, while exports had a negative impact.
However, rising inflation continues to weigh on the economy. Consumer prices in April were 2 percent higher than a year ago, twice the monthly average of around 1 percent reported last year, according to ISTAT's separate inflation report.
