DAR ES SALAAM, April 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Tanzania on Friday opened the first international students' class of the Sino-Tanzanian Silk Road Institute of Electric Power project at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).

Chongqing Electric Power College of China, CIIC International Education Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd, and DIT of Tanzania are jointly running a program that aims to provide academic education and vocational skills training to DIT electrical staff and students in the electrical engineering program.

DIT Rector Preksedis Marco Ndomba said the introduction of the project followed the signing of an agreement on May 1, 2023, between DIT and Chongqing Electrical Power College to train young Tanzanian professionals in electrical engineering technology, improve the level of electrical education system in Tanzania and provide technical talents to enterprises in Tanzania and Africa at large.

DIT Head of Electrical Engineering Department Mwaka Juma said that through this project, the teaching staff would be able to formulate a talent training program and develop professional teaching standards and curriculum standards that meet Tanzania's actual needs.

"This training will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of electrical engineers, technicians, and innovators," said Juma.

She added that the training will enhance the quality of education at DIT and equip students with the competence skills they need to excel in Tanzania and the global industry.

Chen Qiuhang, a lecturer at Chongqing Electric Power College, said the training is aligned with the development needs of Tanzania's power industry and incorporates China's globally leading expertise in smart grids, renewable energy generation, and electrical control technology.

"I firmly believe that through our joint efforts, this collaboration will inject new vitality into Tanzania's power industry and add another brilliant chapter to vocational education cooperation between China and Africa," said Chen.
