Knee injury ends season for Girona's Spain winger Bryan Gil

MADRID, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Spain international winger Bryan Gil won't play again this season after Girona confirmed on Thursday that he has had an operation on a twisted external ligament on his right knee that he picked up in its 1-1 draw at home to Valencia at the weekend.

Gil will need around four to five months to recover by which time his loan at the La Liga club will have ended.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for Girona this season, making 32 appearances (28 starts) in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League, scoring four goals and giving three assists.

He joined Tottenham from Sevilla in 2021 and has a contract until June 2026, but he has failed to settle in England and only made 43 first team appearances for the North London club, who has sent him on loan to Valencia, Sevilla and Girona.

Girona has an option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season for around 15 million euros, but Gil's injury may now persuade it to think twice before spending such a large sum of money.
