France bans oral nicotine products from April 1

PARIS, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The sale and use of oral nicotine products, excluding medicines and medical devices, are banned in France starting from April 1, according to a decree issued by the French authorities.

The products covered by the ban include portion pouches and porous pouches, pastes, pellets, liquids, chewing gums, lozenges, strips, as well as any combination of these forms, the decree said.

The measure also applies to manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers of nicotine-containing products, and users, according to the decree.

The ban on pouches is a crucial step to protect young people, as these nicotine pouches are highly addictive and can contain nicotine levels as high as those found in an entire pack of cigarettes, the Anti-Tobacco Alliance warned, as cited Wednesday by local media BFMTV.
