New Venice day-trip tax needs further development: analyst

ROME, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The first ever five-euro day trip tax trial in Italy's northern city of Venice has to be further observed and developed, though has already achieved some early success, residents and experts said in recent interviews with Xinhua following the end of the pilot scheme in July.

This year, Venice became the first Italian city to apply a special tax to those who visit the city for the day during the 29 busiest days of the summer high tourist season between April and July. Residents, visitors for work, or who stayed overnight in the ancient canal city were not required to pay the fee of five euros (5.42 U.S. dollars).
