Ethiopian Airlines flight skids off runway while landing, no injuries reported

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- An Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane on Thursday encountered runway excursion after landing at Mekelle Alula Aba Nega International Airport in northern Ethiopia, the airlines said in a statement.

The Ethiopia's flag carrier said in the statement that its local flight, which departed the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, at 12:30 local time had a runway excursion after landing at Mekelle Alula Aba Nega International Airport at 14:10 local time.

The airline said all passengers and crew aboard the plane were disembarked safely with no injuries.

"We are conducting investigation to determine the cause of the incident. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience encountered," the airlines said.

The De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 was operating flight ET106 from Addis Ababa to Mekele. The aircraft, eventually, suffered a runway excursion and landing gear collapse while landing at Mekelle Alula Aba Nega International Airport.
