Negeri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Alzafny Ahmad confirmed that a male suspect in his 70s was detained following a report lodged at around 2.55am on Thursday (July 23).
"We received a report that several of the party flags were removed along a road in Dusun Setia in Seremban.
"Preliminary probe revealed that members of the public had recorded the incident and it then went viral," said Alzafny in a statement on Friday (July 24).
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for vandalism, which carries a prison term of not less than one year and not more than five years, or a fine, or both, where the damage caused exceeds RM25.
Alzafny reminded the public to always obey the law and to refrain from provoking or doing anything that could disrupt public order.
On polling day, Aug 1, a total of 395 polling centres will open from 8am to 6pm, utilising schools, community halls, colleges, sports complexes and public halls for the election of new state representatives.
A total of 867,151 regular voters are eligible to cast their ballots in this state election.
The Negri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was officially dissolved on June 5, with the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
In the 15th Negri Sembilan state election in 2023, Pakatan Harapan won 17 of the 36 state seats, followed by Barisan Nasional with 14, and Perikatan Nasional with five.
