The inconvenience of losing an important document can push people into rash choices.

Recently, the police claimed that an individual lodged a false report to avoid a paying a fee at to the National Registration Department to replace lost documents.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Hulu Selangor Police said the individual made a false police report, claiming to be a victim of snatch theft on Jalan Sungai Choh.

Police investigations, however, found that the 33-year-old complainant made a false report after losing their MyKad and ATM card at a shop in Bukit Sentosa to avoid paying a fee for a new IC at the National Registration Department.

Police said the case was investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false report. The individual was charged in the Kuala Kubu Bharu Court on Feb 3, 2026 and fined RM200.

The police advised the public to be responsible and not make false reports as such actions may result in legal action in accordance with the provisions of the law.
